Are commercials in TV really necessary? Do we need them at all? Personally, I would love to watch a movie or a program without the interruption of advertisements.
All people I know, get nervous when commercials interrupt their favorite program. I would prefer the channel without any commercials at all. Unfortunately, nowadays it is difficult to imagine such channel in TV. Commercials are everywhere.
At the beginning of the existence of commercials, they were not really commercial. In the USA in 1949, the Department of Commerce defined TV as the combination of sound, moving pictures and immediacy; it was very influential and TV was becoming also an advertising medium. At that time TV started to get its commercial character. Among the first commercials was the one I really like- showing beavers playing on tom-toms. It seems clear that much has changed in this area.
We are all affected by commercials. We watch TV or deal with it every single day. People, who produce commercials have wide knowledge of how to affect the minds of the watchers. But we have to remember that we always have a choice if we want to watch TV or not.
No person likes to be subconsciously influenced by anything. The commercials make us want to buy different products. It is good for us that we can defend ourselves. We can decide not to buy the products, which are advertised. However, commercial TV has to get money and the easiest way to do it is show many commercials. It is profitable for the companies and corporations, which advertise their products, and for the TV channel as well.
I think that in the future there is going to be even more commercials than there is today. We will have to watch more and more of them. People who do not want to watch them, will have more time to make coffee and do other things while watching TV. There is no way to avoid TV commercials. We would have to stop watching TV at all.
